About Dave Lawson Photography
I’m Dave Lawson, a professional photographer based in St. Helens. Photography has been part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I’ve been fortunate to turn my passion into a career capturing memories, moments and stories for people, families, and businesses across the North West.

My Journey into Photography
Photography started as a personal hobby, something I enjoyed exploring in my spare time. Over the years, my interest grew into a deeper passion for capturing real moments and telling stories through images. What began with simple experiments quickly developed into a professional career, and I’ve never looked back. Living in St. Helens has shaped my work, as I’ve been able to combine my love of photography with the local community I care about.
From my very first paid session, I knew this was the right path for me. Every shoot has been a chance to learn, improve, and grow both creatively and personally. Today, I feel lucky to work with people from all walks of life, helping them preserve memories that matter most to them.

My Approach to Photography
For me, photography is not just about taking pictures, it’s about making people feel comfortable and capturing genuine moments. I believe the best photographs come when people feel at ease, so I focus on creating a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in every session. I don’t believe in forcing stiff poses or rushing through shoots. Instead, I take the time to understand each client’s personality, preferences and story, making sure the final images feel authentic and natural. Whether it’s a wedding, family portrait, or professional headshot, my aim is always the same: to create timeless photographs that mean something. I also pay close attention to detail, from lighting and composition to editing, ensuring every image is finished to the highest standard. My approach is built on care, patience and creativity, which is why so many of my clients return for more sessions over the years.
Why I Love What I Do
What I enjoy most about photography is the variety of people and stories I get to capture. No two sessions are ever the same, which keeps my work fresh and inspiring. I love the privilege of being part of significant milestones, whether that’s photographing a wedding, welcoming a new baby, or helping someone take the next step in their career with a professional headshot.
Seeing the reaction when clients first view their photographs is one of the most rewarding parts of my job. It reminds me why I do what I do. Photography allows me to give people something they can hold onto forever, something that grows in value with time. Living and working in St. Helens means I can offer my services to a community I’m proud to be part of, and that connection makes my work feel even more meaningful every day.
